Taking time to actually take a bath might be more important than you think…

Let’s talk about epsom salts. They are commonly found in most of those fancy “bath salts” that you find in your local T.J. Maxx or that you get as gift and never get around to actually using. Come to find out, you should actually crack open that far and get ready to soak.

Not only is a bath relaxing after a long, hard day but as it turns out, it can be very beneficial to your health too. First off, did you know that “Epsom Salts” are actually magnesium-sulfate? Why is this significant? Well, I was quite surprised at the obvious “ailments” we find to be “normal” that are actually from a magnesium deficiency. Common things like asthma, PMS, depression, hair loss, and more can be symptoms of a magnesium deficiency. (For more information about this, check out Magnesium Deficiency: Symptoms, Causes, & Treatments)

I didn’t discover my own need for magnesium till I became pregnant with my third and happened to stumble upon an article about morning sickness and how it can be caused by a magnesium deficiency! I immediately started taking epsom salt baths and using Magnesium OilImage may be NSFW.

on my skin at least once a week. I also purchased Natural Vitality Natural CalmImage may be NSFW.

and started taking about 1/2 tsp in a bottle of water almost every day. Within a couple weeks, my morning sickness literally went away completely. I truly believe the magnesium is to blame!

Upon further research, I discovered that we need calcium in order to absorb magnesium. If you eat too much calcium, you can actually hinder your absorption of magnesium! So all these commercials pushing the “need” for calcium, completely ignore the fact that we also need magnesium in conjunction with it. Needless to say, a lot of people end up magnesium deficient and don’t even know it.

Easy solution… Take a bath!

My favorite way to soak up my daily dose of magnesium is with EveryOne Bath Soak. They have 4 delicious “flavors” – Yoga, Cycle, Sinner, and Surfer. My vice is Yoga.

Yoga Soak features an essential oil blend of rose geranium, lavender, marjoram, orange and frankincense that makes for a very calming and relaxing experience. I love the scent and how my skin feels after I get out of the bath. The organic olive oil in this really softens and moisturizers your skin.

HOUSEWIFE TIP: Be aware that with bath soaks that contain oil, the tub will be a little slick when you’re done. I keep a bottle of dish detergent in my bathroom and just squirt a little in there, rub it around with my hands (or a sponge) really quickly and rinse with the shower head (or a cup). Takes 2 minutes and leaves your tub and shower pristine so you don’t have to put a lot of elbow grease into it later.

All four EveryOne Soaks feature a unique combination of Epsom salts, organic olive oil, and four very powerful essential oil blends. You could just soak in plain ol’ epsom salts, but why bother when you can pick one of these bath soaks to suit your specific needs?

Price: $12.99 for 30 ounces (enough for 8 full baths)
