Looks like we are all forced to stay home now due to rising concerns over Covid-19 Coronavirus. Americans are being urged to practice social distancing and many people are working from home for the next 2 weeks to slow the spread of this novel coronavirus.
If you’re stressing out about the pandemic, we have some tips to help you stay calm. This might sound easier said than done for busy moms, but I promise you can do it. Even though experts say that meditating or praying for just ten minutes a day can reduce stress and improve cognitive decline, even that isn’t always feasible.
Between laundry, making lunches, phone meetings, and struggling to keep your sanity, you might barely find time to even take a shower this week. You’ve probably tried every trick in the book to try and make your life more manageable like a cute little daily schedule like all the other moms on Facebook are posting pictures of. But the reality is: life is going to be different for a little while.
If you are worried about losing your sanity while staying safe during coronavirus season, check out our tips for staying calm!
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is a type of alternative medicine that uses plant extracts to create an essential oil that can support an individual’s heath and wellness. Different essential oils are used to treat different things that range from relaxation to boosting the immune system. Possibly the best thing about aromatherapy is that it can provide a whole host of benefits without you actually having to do anything. You can simply use essential oil products in your regular daily routine. Add a couple of drops of peppermint in your shampoo to boost your energy levels and also help improve digestion. Or you can put some Bergamot oil in your hand soap because it has been known to help certain skin conditions like eczema as well as reduce stress. You can also put some thieves oil in a diffuser in your house so that everyone can enjoy its benefits while you tend to other household tasks. Some popular essential oils and their benefits are:
- Lavender: Stress reliever.
- Tea Tree: Helps fight infection and strengthens your immune system.
- Ylang-Ylang: Treats headaches and nausea.
- Lemon: Aids with digestion, elevates your mood, and eases headaches.
- Rose: Elevates mood and reduces anxiety.
Use Your Time Wisely
Since most people are being forced to work from home whether they like it or not, you might not have a lot of free time on your hands, especially if you aren’t used to homeschooling your kids too. If you have any free time to yourself, use it wisely! Use voice memos to record your to do list or start keeping an audio journal to track your thoughts and feelings and clear up space in your head for other things.
You can also listen to audiobooks or podcasts. Whether you need to finish a couple of chapters for your book club or you’re researching something for work, there are a number of audio resources that can help. Have your kids join in too! Our favorite podcast is Called To Communion and it helps us relax a bit after a long day.
Spend Time Together
Since you’re stuck at home, you might as well make sure you are spending quality time together. Unplug, dock your phone, and take out a board game or something fun like Twister. Take advantage of all this extra time with your family to do fun things together like play games, read books, watch movies, or even declutter a room.
There’s no magical cure for helping busy moms maintain their peace of mind during this pandemic, but hopefully, some time-saving tips and multitasking can help you stay calm while you’re social distancing.
