That’s right, there are essential oils in your kitchen. In fact, you likely have at least three in your kitchen right now, even without the bottles. How is this possible? It’s quite easy, actually. If you have citrus fruit in your kitchen, then you already have some essential oils there.
Why is citrus fruit already an essential oil?
The rinds of your oranges, lemons, limes, and other citrus like grapefruits contain the oils that are used to create the essential oils of the same names. These are pure and natural essential oils that you have probably been using in your recipes and drinks for years without knowing what you were doing.
In fact, there may be other essential oils you have used without knowing it as well. For example, have you ever made anything with cinnamon and some olive, canola, or almond oil, then you have used cinnamon oil. We realize this sounds a bit far-fetched, but honestly, it is not. There are a variety of oils in your everyday cooking that simply would not be noticed without you knowing.
What types of essential oils are great for cooking?
There are so many outstanding essential oils that can be used for cooking that it would take us a full day to list all of them. Instead, we’ve put together a short list of the most commonly used essential oils in cooking.
- Vanilla
- Cardamom
- Thyme
- Ginger
Many of these are used in both cooking and baking, as even Lavender can be used to create some truly aromatic and delicious treats. No matter what your preference, there are likely a few dozen oils out there that you could benefit from in the kitchen.
Are essential oils truly safe for cooking?
Indeed they are, however, you will need to research the oils you wish to use. Many oils out there on the store shelves are not actually pure as stated on their labels. Well, they are pure, but they are certainly not pure and natural. Instead, they are synthetic concoctions that could place you in harm’s way if used to cook your meals.
This is why it is “essential” for you to find a reliable supplier, like Simply Earth, who you can trust and who shows exactly what you need to know about their oils, including whether or not they have been tested as foodsafe. Once you have done the research and selected a supplier, feel free to start stocking your kitchen and having fun with your essential oils.
What about baking with essential oils?
There are plenty of uses for essential oils in baking, even though high heat tends to break down the effectiveness of the oils over time. That should not stop you from creating masterpieces of sugary delight from brownies to cookies, cakes and more. Just remember to check your measurements and use no more than necessary in order to get the best results with the least amount used. This will not only help your recipes but help you to get the most use from your oils in the longer run.
